We would like to inform you of Nanjing University Friendship Foundation (NUFF)’s accomplishment in the past six years and ask for your support to help NUFF extend its mission of educational and cultural enhancement.
Since its inception six years ago, NUFF has successfully raised over $116,000 from its U.S. alumni and friends. The highlights of NUFF’s activities include:
Ø The flagship NUFF Student-aid/Scholarship program is in its sixth year. The program supports sixteen students per year. Ten of them receive $500, while the other six receive $250. These students come from very poor families who are not able to provide much financial support to them. Your contribution has made a tremendous impact on these students’ ability to concentrate on studying. Their stories can be found on NUFF’s home page at http://www.nuaa-us.org/nuff/index.php . The NUFF Scholarship has become a tradition in the making and you should be proud of the success it has generated at our alma mater and the impact it has on these good young men and women
Ø In addition to the regular NUFF Scholarship program, through the efforts of various alumni groups, NUFF has established a few other scholarship programs targeted at Nanjing University students. These programs include NUFF Sun Jin-li Memorial Scholarship and Biochem ’78 Alumni Scholarship. NUFF also facilitates Gao Yumin Scholarship program at the Physics and Material Sciences departments
Ø To fulfill its mission in supporting alumni activities, NUFF helped organize and financially supported the 2006 NUAA-US and NUFF Conference held in Philadelphia
Ø With help from NUAA-US and local branches, NUFF has demonstrated its commitment to the caring of its alumni in the U.S. in difficult situations. In late 2006, an alumnus of ours, Mr. Lei Xun unexpectedly passed away with a heart condition, leaving behind his wife and two young children. Through NUFF, a special fund raising was carried out to help Mr. Lei’s family to alleviate some of the financial burden. We hope this initiative along with our thoughts help reduce his young family’s pain
Ø We recently extended some modest funding to help the Books for China Fund organized by a distinguished alumnus, Mr. Ma Da-ren. This initiative aims at collecting valuable out-of-print books from professors in the U.S. to be donated to the libraries of Nanjing University and other Chinese universities

Starting this year, NUFF is establishing a donor recognition program. The program has three tiers:
Ø Annual donations of $200 or more receives the "思源奖"
Ø Annual donations of $500 or more receives the "树人奖"
Ø Annual donations of $1,000 or more receives the "精英奖"
These awards carry no monetary value but serve as a note of gratitude for your efforts that continue to shape NUFF as a successful organization which makes an impact in the lives of Nanjing University students and alumni alike.
During this holiday season, as we are surrounded by family and friends, it is particularly appropriate for us to reflect on how fortunate we are in our lives and on the impact of the education we received at Nanjing University. We all share the desire to “Serve Nanjing University Alumni; Participate in the Future of Nanjing University”. I encourage you to show your caring and generosity through the support of NUFF.
Just as a reminder, because NUFF is a non-profit 501c3 organization, your donation has a snowballing effect. It is deductible from income taxes, and often matched by your employer. As an example, when you donate $100 to NUFF, $100 can be deducted from your income on your tax return, resulting in $15-35 tax savings to you. With your company match of $100, $200 is generated in total to support NUFF’s mission.
